Jim,
The Blog looks great and I am thrilled that we going to experiment with gold tees on #16. Hope it becomes permanent. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve OB’d that hole.

For some time now a number of members have asked us to consider including the 16th hole in the gold tee line-up.
The argument is that shorter tee shots have a tendency to kick to the right out of bounds and that longer drives would have a much wider landing area. And with OB very close to the right side of the fairway, any kind of left-to-right shot is frequently OB.
We have tested this proposition using the red tee on 16 and the white tee on 8 with a foursome with some shorter drivers of the ball and some players who are long enough to easily reach the wider landing area. The testing was for fewer rounds than would provide sound data but we did find that we had far fewer OBs and pace of play was thus much improved.
The 8th hole has quite a wide fairway and no real trouble on the right unless the tee shot is really “long and wrong”. The hole is long enough to be a 3-shot to the green hole for most Seniors who would be hitting a longer 3rd shot than usual. The longer drivers would have a more challenging 2nd shot but could still be reasonably expected to get home in two quite readily.
We plan to try this approach in the first two events, which are not part of the regular schedule, to see how members feel about it.
